How To Get The Most Out Of Your Candle

The way you burn your candle can affect how many hours you can get out of it, so it pays to make note of a few simple tips before you light that first match.

To make your candle burn better and longer, follow these simple instructions:

1   |   WHERE TO BURN YOUR CANDLE

Choosing the location for your candle is very important from a safety perspective but also to ensure the longevity of your candle. Place your candle on a stable, heat resistant surface and away from flammable materials like curtains. Avoid burning your candle in draughty areas to ensure it burns evenly and safely. Ensure you can keep an eye on your candle and it’s not within reach of children or animals.

2   |   WHEN TO BURN YOUR CANDLE

On its first burn, ensure your candle is alight long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar. This helps your candle burn evenly throughout and prevents tunnelling which is when some wax remains on the sides of the jar while the wick melts down the middle, causing a 'tunnel' effect.

Don’t burn your candle for longer than four hours at a time; any longer and the flame can get too large and unsafe. Once extinguished, allow at least a couple of hours before burning it again.

When there’s only around a centimetre of wax left in the jar, it’s time to call it a day. If you continue to burn candles to the very bottom, the jar can get dangerously hot.

Your Ribbon Gang Co. candle will come with a wick trimmed to the correct length, around half a centimetre. When you come to relight your candle, it's a good idea to trim it to that same length each time. It will look quite short but it is the correct length to ensure your candle flame doesn't get too large and unstable.

Before lighting, remove any dust or debris visible on the top of your candle to prevent adding any extra fuel to the flame.
